Insulead - Frameless Units

Our Insulead fixed units comprise a perimeter edging made of lead which is fully soldered at the joints. This lead is a maximum of 28mm wide but can be reduced down to a minimum of 15mm if required. Due to Touchstone Insulead’s unique ability to take any thickness of unit (28mm standard) it is possible to incorporate specialised glass for the purposes of security, UV filtration, energy conservation and sound inhibition all whilst maintaining a traditional appearance. We also offer our own kiln modified glass as an option which can be supplied toughened. (Ideal for use when isothermal glazing is required). Our standard Insulead unit comprises of a full 28mm unit made up of Planibel A toughened on the inside pane with Pilkington Optiwhite toughened on the outside using Swiss U warm edge spacer bar. Touchstone frameless fixed lights are fully drained and thermally broken. In the unlikely event of water ingress through, for example stone porosity, the inbuilt drainage channels allow the water to exit to the outside via weep holes, which also allow the building to breath. Our Leadlyte leaded lights are and crafted using traditional methods. We provide a full repair & restoration service to leaded lights and stained glass. It is even possible to use the original glazing either within the double glazing (Encapsulyte) or mounted in front or behind as a decorative screen.

Glazing Options

Our glazing can be double or triple glazed using high performance 28mm insulating glass units. This specification combines the latest glazing technology with warm edged spacer bar and Argon gas filling; this achieves a superior performance double-glazed unit. All of our windows are factory-glazed. However the design nature of our Steelyte opening casements mean that our glazing units can be removed for repair on site using hand tools.
