Conservation Officers

The care for each historic property is always at the forefront of everything that Touchstone Glazing does. We always conduct a full site survey and ensure that the fabric of the building will remain protected.

Protection of the Building

As craftsmen in the heritage window industry, we believe the best way to protect historic buildings is to save historic skills and for these buildings to be used and sometimes this requires thermal efficient solutions.

Therefore, all our products are designed with the protection of historic buildings as paramount importance. Everything we offer is fully reversible and no modification to the existing fabric of the building is required. Our Insulead® glazing fits where the original was located and is made by our skilled craftsmen using only traditional materials and methods.

Our Steelyte® opening casements incorporate a polymer edging in order to protect the stonework. Made of stainless steel throughout they have been designed to look almost indistinguishable from the original.

Our aim is to always maintain and reuse as much of the original material as possible.

Examples of listed building projects

Over the years Touchstone has built up an unrivalled reputation in the development and care of historic windows within the conservation world.

Due to the careful design of our products and the understanding we have of how historic buildings function we are very proud of the fact that our products have been accepted by conservation officers and historic England alike in Grade I, Grade II* and Grade II Listed buildings and world Heritage sites.

Site Visits

As a company, we understand how important it is to get the windows right in listed and historic buildings. Therefore we are always able to arrange a site visit.

We also understand that when working on Listed buildings it can be necessary to meet up with conservation officers or representatives from Historic England and are more than happy to offer this as part of our service.
