Sustainability

At Touchstone Glazing Solutions we always aim to ensure that all our business practices are completed with the environment in mind. We show our commitment to the environment everyday by producing long lasting and sustainable windows and doors.

The design stage all the way through to the manufacturing stage is completed under one roof meaning a reduction of transportation between multiple sites. Having everything under one roof not only improves our sustainability but allows our customers to see all the functions and hard work that goes in when producing our windows.

Our Environmental Policy

  • Produce sustainable and good quality products

  • Recycle all our waste material including raw materials such as lead and glass

  • Review all environmental strategies on a yearly basis

  • Educate employees and suppliers on new ways to reduce waste

Lead

Lead itself has been used as a material for construction and in other areas for hundreds of years. What makes lead so useful and sustainable is the longevity of its lifespan meaning our windows will not need to be maintained or replaced.

Our lead windows offer no maintenance and fine sightlines which are perfect as a replacement to old and inefficient single glazed windows.

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel was first discovered as a metal which had a strong resistance to corrosion and strong acids following a series of scientific developments. It is now a commonly used material for outside areas especially by the coast. We decided to use high grade stainless steel for our opening casements because we wanted to manufacture a window that lasts, even when it is exposed to extreme weather. Not only a benefit to the end user but a benefit to the environment.

From workshop to site

Our Yorkshire workshop always aims to perform in a sustainable manner.

As part of our environmental policy, we have set processes in place in our workshop to reduce and recycle waste as much as possible.

All glass that cannot be used is recycled which then can be made into various consumer goods such as bottles, vases and even tables. Any existing lead from old leaded lights is removed and recycled to be used once again. Due to the strength and longevity of the material, lead can be re-used several times and is commonly re-formed as batteries.

Other workshop practices include recycling all paper, card and packaging.
