Green Farm, Yorkshire Dales

INSULEAD® FIXED UNITS · STEELYTE® SLIM OPENING CASEMENTS - Albion crowne

The Building

The Green Farm is a grade II Farmhouse located in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Surrounded by rural countryside the farmhouse dates back to 1689 and is a great example of a historic home, suffering from poor thermal efficiency due to it’s single glazing windows.

The Brief

Green farm has stone mullions with white timber single glazed windows. It can be seen that the timber windows were neither in keeping with the property or assisted with the thermal efficiency. In order to solve both of these issues Touchstone were contacted to enquire about their Insulead and Steelyte glazing system.

The Solution

Touchstones Insulead and Steelyte glazing system was approved by the Yorkshire Dales National Park.  It was decided a 16 mm double glaze unit was to be used in order to limit the impact of the listed building. The Insulead system can achieve as little as a 22mm sight line which in this case was slimmer than the existing timber windows or the opening windows. Touchstone’s stainless steel Steelyte was the ideal choice due to the sightlines of the unit being only 35mm. The double-glazing further helped to improve the acoustics of the building which was a further benefit as its located within the rural countryside.

The Response

The choice to go for a black frame, enhanced the appearance of the property without damaging the fabric or historic value of the building. The minimal side lines ensured that more light came through creating a brighter space on the inside of the building. Both Touchstone and the clients were very happy with the outcome.
